On Vikram by Lokesh Kanagaraj
Like many fans of Kamal Haasan, I was waiting for him to score a blockbuster. The kind of experiments he did and the audience’s response over these years made me fall in love with this true artist. He can act, sing, write, dance, choreograph action sequences, direct, edit, and do whatever he wants.
Is he too conscious about the money his movies get? Hell No! But the results of his previous movies (where he produced the movie) didn’t go as expected.
Hence, the long wait for fans to see his movie becoming a profitable venture.
Now, getting to Vikram, this is only the third movie of Kamal I watched in a cinema hall. The other two films are Dasavatharam & Eenadu. I have seen more than 30 films of Kamal until now, with all his directorials too. Okay, context set, let’s dive!
Disclaimer: I’m not going to write about the entire cinema, but will focus on the scenes that stood out for me. Lokiverse ❤
I’m in love with the writing. Imagine convincing KH to act and produce a movie that isn’t standalone but has the other actors for a predominant time! All praise to Lokesh Kanagaraj 🔥
The entire FaFa’s sequence is about a prequel to what’s happened to the Black squad team. Intelligent writing to have the story of a person who’ll become a part of the gang while not showing explicitly what led the existing members to join the Black Squad. WE SEE THAT COMING to Amar (FaFa)!
This movie had one of the cutest and sweet marriage scenes, showing a bit of surprise and happiness on Gayathrie’s face.
Sandhanam (played by Vijay Sethupati) is equally powerful and caring about family. He’s shown as violent and simultaneously fearing the threat from his superiors in the cartel. His acting in this movie is different and refreshing — he didn’t have those freestyle antics. He seemed restricted, in a good sense, owing to a couple of workshops. Bliss to watch him on screen.
Among all the terrific scenes with KH, I loved the eye contact and dialogue-less exchange between Vikram and his son, Prabhanjan, at the naming ceremony of Prabhanjan’s son, Vikram. So subtle, yet an important scene. (Some actors can act with eyes, KH’s eye-brows are enough :p )

I loved every aspect of the film, except the action sequences in the climax (okay, not complaining, though). Let’s hope we can witness more films with great cinematic experiences. After RRR, Vikram gave me that high!
I’ve been listening to Lokiverse Theme music on loop for some days. Vikram has one of the best OSTs in recent times. Anirudh is 🔥 all over. He gave Petta for Rajnikanth and Vikram for Kamal.
In one of the interviews, Loki mentioned that the prostitute scene is a kind of tribute to the paining Mahanadi (I wonder how brilliant Mahanadi is, but can’t revisit it).
Deeply rooting for more Lokiverse films and all filmmakers who respect the audience :)
This one is relatively short, and I was reluctant to publish this. Still not sure if I need to publish it, but anything for KH ❤ 🙏
