Story pattern in Selva Raghavan’s films: Ever noticed these 5 elements?

Be it a romantic movie, a fantasy, or a crime thriller, Selva Raghavan follows a convention for his characters.

  1. Father-Son duo:
Let’s start with 7/G Brundavan colony: A reckless guy without any ambition can be seen bullying by a middle-class father. After the hero gets a job, the emotions shown are priceless. Also, in Varnaa, the bonding can be seen as a highlight.

Adavari Maatlaku ardale verule also has a similar duo. Venkatesh and Kota gaaru👌

2. Friends
The hero is seen with a group of friends. Hero and one of his friends develop an interest in the same girl. Be it 7/G, Adavari Maatlaku.., Mayakkam Enna, Kaadhal Kondein. Ironically, the hero loves a girl who is already committed and she starts loving hero then!

3) Heroine Characters
Heroines in his movies are strong and stubborn. They are instrumental in transforming Hero characters. In Mayakkam Enna and 7/G, this part is wonderful.

4) Hero Career
Raghavan’s heroes strive hard for their career. Even a few brilliant scenes are shot with an emotional background score. A scene where Dhanush requesting for an assistant post in Mayakkam Enna with the BGM 🙌

5) Genre
Selva Raghavan often shows character arcs of the protagonist and his partner. Most of his films are Drama genres as he shows the life of a person throughout.

There will be another post only on Pudhupettai as I felt there’s much more to write about it.

Do you find any other aspects of his films missing here? Comment below. I’d love to hear from you :)
