Last week I watched action and drama movies, and I was watching random Instagram reels and heard the background score of Premikula Roju (Kadhalar Dhinam), composed by AR Rahman. I vaguely remember a few scenes from the movie, and I liked how Nassar motivates the hero, Kunal Singh, when he confesses about love.

I was reminded of two similar scenes from other movies, where an older man highlights the importance of love and the wonders it can do. Watching these scenes from the three films is so pleasant and good. I thought of sharing them in one place for my future reference.

Love teaches everything.

SPB is not only a great singer but also a great actor. He’s warm and joyful in most of the characters he plays. In Kadhalan (Premikudu), he motivates his son (Prabhu Deva) to learn a classical dance to change Nagma’s impression of Prabhu. The scene is shot at the beach, and it’s so endearing to see a professional singer and a professional dancer act!

Love makes you win!

I love this scene from Premilkula Roju (Kadhalar Dhinam). Kunal is a student from a village pursuing an MBA at a premier institute in Mumbai. He falls in love with a girl, and his studies take a toll. He misses an exam and confesses his love to Nassar, the college Dean asking for forgiveness. And Nassar has golden words to say:

He’s the Dean of a business school, and he talks about love with his student when the student bunks an exam! Amazing scene indeed.

Express your love to begin your life

This scene from Raja Rani suddenly lightens the mood after two emotional flashback stories of Arya and Nayan. I love how comic actors perform in scenes about life without letting their comedy come in and making the scene too personal and beautiful. Arya is married to Nayan, and they initially struggle to care for each other. After listening to each other’s failures in love, they start developing feelings for each other. And then, Rajendran, Arya’s boss in the office, narrates his love story and how his life has changed for good when he expresses his love.

Of late, I have been reading news about parents killing the youth for intercaste marriages and youth committing suicides due to love failures. While I’m no one to comment on those news items, it does affect us by knowing what happened in their lives. Whenever my spirits are down, I watch such scenes to reaffirm that not everything in the world is awful.
